Workday Additional Payroll Data from 2024R2

In 2024R2, Workday released a "Additional Payroll Data" feature for external payroll. Relase Notes. This feature is expected to replace Local Payroll Data". Community - Concept: Local Payroll Data. I've had a mixed experience with "Local Payroll Data" back in ~2019. As best as I can tell, "Local Payroll Data" has been a feature in Workday since sometime between 2016 and 2018.

The nice thing about these features is that they enable editing payroll data required by a third party payroll vendor from Workday that Workday doesn't support. So say Workday doesn't support the field "Number of Dependents." Your third party payroll vendor could make that an editable field from within Workday with "Additional Payroll Data" or "Local Payroll Data".

Behind the scenes, all the data seen in Additional Payroll Data and Local Payroll Data are stored and managed by the third party payroll vendor. It's not stored in Workday Back when I tried this in 2019, it was unfortunately VERY slow. I'm hoping that's no longer an issue 5+ years later now.

From the release notes about Additional Payroll Data, it seems like a nice V2 upgrade from Local Payroll Data. The primary upgrades are the ability to have employee self-service for editing the data as well as notifications.

Modifying the Additional Payroll Data is available as step for:

  • Add Additional Job
  • Assign Pay Group
  • Change Job
  • Edit Position
  • Hire
  • Start International Assignments
  • Onboarding
