Dailyish

posted

Oliver Burkeman’s post on “dailyish” really resonated with me.

We’ve all heard the quote, “We are what we repeatedly do.” Repeatedly = Dailyish.

Dailyish doesn’t require superhuman levels of perfection. 5 days a week? Nailed it! 2 days? Not so much.

After college, work travel knocked me out of anything resembling a fitness routine. I no longer had time for an hour in the gym or a mid-week bike ride. Then a few years later, young kids made it even harder. 2-ish years ago, I started working out dailyish, sometimes for as little as a 10-minute run. Something, anything, was better than nothing. I feel healthier today than I did 10 years ago. Those 20–30 minutes most days did far more for me than a weeklyish 3-hour Sunday bike ride ever did.

Don’t get hung up on perfection, overthinking, and complex systems. Just be disciplined.

The progress is usually nearly invisible. Have faith each dailyish step adds up.
